Coastal Animal Hospital was founded in 1991 by Dr. Lisa Edwards and Dr. Robert Baker. Dr. Edwards is the veterinarian who works here today. She sees dogs and cats, and she specialises in chiropractic care.

An integrative practice, one patient at a time.

Coastal is a general practice that prioritises an individual treatment plan for each pet, and client education alongside it. That second half matters as much as the first: nobody leaves without understanding what was found and what happens next.

Dr. Edwards graduates from Cornell University.

Coastal Animal Hospital opens in Rockledge. Joanie Winnett joins as a technician the same year and is still here.

Dr. Edwards becomes certified in animal chiropractic, one of the first in this area to do so, then adds training in acupuncture, clinical nutrition and homeopathy.

Missy Guppenberger joins. Technician, then groomer, and now the voice on the other end of the phone.

What that adds up to

Two of the four people here have been at this practice for more than twenty-five years. A third grew up in it. For a client, that is the difference between explaining your dog’s history at every visit and being asked how he has been since the last one.

Dr. Edwards’ own household: one dog (Pip), one cat (Emerys) and one horse (Dash).

Dr. Lisa Edwards

Veterinarian and Administrator

Dr. Lisa Edwards graduated from Cornell University in 1984. She opened Coastal Animal Hospital in 1991. In 1992, she became certified in animal chiropractic, becoming one of the first in this area to do so. She continued to broaden her traditional education by gaining additional training in acupuncture, clinical nutrition and homeopathy. Dr. Lisa Edwards loves to spend time with her two children and her pets: one dog (Pip), one cat (Emerys), and one horse (Dash).

Joanie Winnett

Technician and Administrative Assistant

Joanie has been with the Coastal team since 1991 as a technician for Dr. Edwards. She loves seeing what alternative medicine can do versus traditional medicine, without the side effects regular medication can sometimes cause. Joanie and her husband share their home with 9 cats, 1 dog, 1 tarantula, 1 squirrel, and several tortoises and turtles. In her spare time, she loves airboating, camping, kayaking, butterfly gardening and going to Disney.

Missy Guppenberger

Receptionist

Missy joined the Coastal team in 1999. She has held many roles over the years including technician, groomer, and is now our receptionist. Missy says her favorite part of her job is all of the relationships she has made over the years, and all of the clients that have become like family. She stays very busy, raising three beautiful daughters in a home they share with eight cats, two dogs, two tortoises. Missy enjoys gardening, reading, and spending time outdoors when she has a free minute.

Amanda Edwards

Veterinary Assistant and Webmaster

Amanda is Dr. Lisa Edwards' daughter. Throughout high school and college, she has worked at Coastal Animal Hospital as a veterinary assistant. Amanda has been part of our front desk and technician teams. She is also in charge of maintaining our website. She loves working at Coastal Animal Hospital because it has always been her dream to become a veterinarian, work alongside her mother, and take over the family business. She loves to spend time with her family and pets: one dog (Lilly) and one cat (Sophie), and she likes teaching music on Saturdays.

Two portraits are still to come. Rather than run a stock silhouette in their place, those two carry a brand monogram until a real photograph exists.
